Truth and love go together. God is love, and Jesus expressed that love, and the Holy Spirit ministers His love to our hearts. So without love, truth lacks God and isn’t really truth at all. Likewise, love without truth misses God and isn’t actually love. Jesus is the Truth, and He exactly reflects the Father, and the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth. Truth alone sees only the letter of the law which kills. Love alone, like an overly permissive parent, pampers the flesh. It helps me feel good for the moment but causes ruin in the long run.
Maybe truth is the muscle in love, and love is the heart in truth. One without the other can’t stand the trials of life or rescue us from eternal death. The combination–the dynamic duo, however, never fails. (I Corinthians 13:8)
At the cross of Calvary, Jesus fulfilled Psalm 85:10: “Lovingkindness and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.” (New American Standard Bible)
Psalm 27:4 says “One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD…” in the New American Standard Bible. A footnote in that Bible says that the literal translation of “beauty ” in this verse is “delightfulness.” The Lord truly is delightful. What a joy to think about His delightfulness every day!
