GOD IS (NOT) MY BUDDY – Nov. 22th

Good post by JD Blom.

“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! Psalm 33:4

It seems like most people have a very similar tendency.  If we are shown an image enough times we begin to accept it as real even when we know it is a caricature. Caricatures are used all the time to help communicate a point. I have seen characteristics exaggerated to highlight what can be overlooked. I have also seen caricatures used to simplify that which is hard to fathom.  The problem is when the caricature becomes so engrained that we begin to believe the distortion.

Most of us are familiar with maps of the United States…

  1. Thank you Tricia, I appreciate your seeking to clarify this man’s understanding of what he meant by Buddy and your own heart thoughts and yes I do agree God is not just a Buddy.

God is God and will always be our Awesome God and no one else can be Him the same as Tricia is Tricia and Anne is Anne I can’t be you no matter how close we are but as God’s Children, He is our Abba Father our Daddy and Jesus is our closest Friend, these are very interment relationships of the closest kind, the same as we have with The Holy Spirit who is our comforter and empowers us to understand as Jesus Teaches us all Truth and He also equips and empowers us to do God’s will, although They are One (see below ) they still have their own role within the Godhead or Trinity as They are called today but They are completely One in those roles . This is like Marriage even though we become one flesh we still have our own roles, Men are in Leadership and Authority and Woman are their Helpmates and their submission to their Husbands shows their submission to God and when we are One in Christ Jesus with Him by The indwelling of The Spirit, we are neither Male or Female Jew or Greek etc but we don’t cease to be them or does Jesus cease to be in Authority over us but we are United and One in The Spirit.

1 John 5: 7 For there are Three that bear witness in Heaven: The Father, The Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these Three are One.

Colossians 2:9 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

When we are Born again we have God’s seed, His Nature (see below) but we are not God just in Compleat Unity with Him as The Godhead. When Jesus came to earth He had the body or flesh of man with all it’s limitations but He had God’s seed, He was conceived by The Holy Spirit but on the Cross He became fully man and so because of our sin was separated from God, that is why He cried Father why have thou forsaken me, good and evil cannot co-exist, they cannot be in Unity, this is why we must put our evil flesh to death and be perfected in Love, not when we are dead but now, God tells us to do this and Paul told us to aim for it.

1 John 3:1-11 (9) No one who is Born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been Born of God.

  2. Hi Anne,
In his own blog post, Mr. Blom included the following in the comments section of his post: “In this post, I was trying to highlight the magnitude of the statements that we are a friend and a child of God because they truly are mind blowing when you consider that we have been adopted as children of the Creator of the Universe. Jesus became a man, fully God and fully man in order to fulfill the righteous requirement of the law for you and me. That is truly amazing when you consider who he is. I was trying to highlight that just because we are called a friend of Jesus does not make us equal to or on the same level with Jesus. He came down to us. Just because we are fellow heirs with Christ does not make us equal or on the same level with God. That is the distinction that I was trying to make by using the word buddy. I am only buddies with those who are on my same level. Every person who has ever come into the presence of God falls on their face in worship. I don’t do that with my buddies. Our relationship with Jesus as friend is wholly unique to any other friendship that we have ever had. Therefore, we need to really understand that uniqueness. The use of the word buddy was my attempt to distinguish between the commonality with Jesus that is often portrayed and the reality of his divine nature….”
I don’t think JD was trying to minimize God’s love for us or the friendship with Jesus that He has so graciously given us. I think his post was more of a reminder that God is God and we are not.
    Richest blessings,

  3. Hi Trica, man’s understanding at times leaves me wondering why they don’t come as a child to God and accept that He Loves them passionately. Jesus tells us He is our Friend and that is good enough for me and He tells us just how much He Loves us and I don’t doubt it.

God also tells us He delights in us and longs for us to be close to Him and when we suffer He is with us (see below) I rejoice in His words, does this mean I don’t respect Him or I’m not in awe of Him, of course not. Because God is Love He is wanting our fellowship, He created us for this and the World for us to enjoy, mankind messed it up.

Lamentations 3: 33 For He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

Isaiah 43:1-3 – Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.”

Jeremiah 29 :11-12 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
