Devotions in poem/song form.

Link to Sermon Glorious Adventure This sermon by our pastor Randy Huddleston was especially meaningful to me. One thing he points out is that God is so generous and kind that He invites everyone to share His eternal kingdom–anyone who desires may come and drink of the living water He offers. But we come and drink on God’s terms, not our own. We “wash our robes” in the blood of the Lamb. Again, it’s God’s way not our own way.

That invitation reminds me of a song I’ve heard Carroll Roberson sing: “Without Him.” Here are the lyrics:

Without Him I could do nothing
Without Him I’d surely fail
Without Him I would be drifting
Like a ship without a sail

Without Him I would be dying
Without Him I’d be enslaved
Without Him life would be worthless
But with Jesus thank God I’m saved

Oh Jesus, oh Jesus
Do you know Him today
Please don’t turn Him away
Oh Jesus, my Jesus
Without Him how lost I would be
Without Him how lost I would be

Our Wonderful God

Isaiah 40:25 “‘To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?’ asks the Holy One.”cardinal 1_edited-pub dom imagecom Dr Thomas G Barnes

I see beautiful clothes, lovely and fair,
But consider the cardinal, dressed beyond compare.
Who made the cardinal and dressed him so fine?
Our great Creator, the Lord of design.
What art of man compares to what God has done?
Or what feat matches His power? There’s not even one.

Lord, You are awesome, sovereign over all.
Yet You’ve chosen to love us, both great and small.
Your wisdom is broader than the universe vast,
And Your power is stronger than imagination can grasp.
Your mercy and favor, Your grace and Your love—
Overwhelming and humbling, such gifts from above!

Walking in His Love
Colossians 3:12-13 “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
Knowing I am beloved to God puts joy and love in my heart. The more I’m rooted in this truth, the more I can be merciful, kind, and forgiving to others. The more I recognize His magnificence, might and total adequacy and my own powerlessness and inadequacy, the more I want to praise and thank Him and bring Him glory.

From Jesus to You

Jesus on rock by cactus

Behold I go to prepare a place for you,
So where I am you may be too.
And since I go to prepare that place,
You can know that I will come for you.

The beauty of the Father’s mansions—
You will see, none can compare.
The fellowship around His table
Will fill your soul with richness rare.

I am the door to life eternal.
I am the way, the truth, the life.
Come through me. I gave My life for you.
Turn from the darkness. Come to the light.

Countless Gifts of Love

gift 1 from serif galry    Psalm 33:1 “Let the godly sing for joy to the Lord; it is fitting for the pure to praise him.” New Living Translation  (NLT)
I’m troubled by disappointment sometimes. Things don’t turn out like I’d thought or hoped. People don’t do what I think is good or what I’d expected or wished.
The answer for me today is Psalm 63:3 and 5: “Because Thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise Thee. 5 My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.” New American Standard Bible
Father, because Your love and kindness is better than life itself, and You lavish that on me, my soul will be more than satisfied (one translation says “satisfied as with the richest foods) even when people and things disappoint. Amen.

So many gifts from God—
I cannot count them all,
But I can make a start.
I’ll list both great and small.

How can I draw closer, Lord?
How can I love You more
And give glory You are due?
I’ll consider all I have to thank You for.

Psalm 107:8-9 “Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” New King James Version
Yes, I do want to have a continual attitude of gratitude because of all God has done. He is truly good. I see it more and more. He satisfies my longing soul as I believe and trust Him more. He fills my hungry soul with goodness as I hunger and thirst after righteousness. (Matthew 5:6)
1 Thessalonians 5:18 “ Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” NLT
The title for this post comes from the hymn “Now Thank We All Our God” written by Martin Rinkart. A beautiful video of the hymn is on YouTube at . (An ad precedes the video.)

Psalm of a Booklover

cat w-books--dover    Books are treasures. Books are friends.
But if you want real life that never ends,
Come to Jesus, the one true Word
He’s the greatest news you’ve ever heard.
He’s God with us, come as a man.
He lived to fulfill His Father’s plan.
On Calvary’s cross, He took our sin,
So we can have true life that will never end.jesus-christ-w- crown in glory--purple-other colors

Thanksgiving Praises

Lord, You’ve filled our lives with blessing on blessing:
Life overflowing, abundant and true;
Love that is growing and peace everlasting,
The delight of Your presence and mercies ever new.

Only in You, Lord, can we find life worth living.
Thank You for drawing us so we will seek You,
We bless Your great Name with hearts of thanksgiving.
We praise and thank You for all that You do.

And someday we’ll join in the heavenly chorus.
In that day, our journey on earth will be o’er,
And we’ll still have eternity always before us.
Lord, we’ll sing Your praises forever more.

Wonderful Day

Wonderful Day!

Oh, what a wonderful day that will be
When the face of our Jesus we see.
Then like Him we will always be.
Oh, what a wonderful day!

Oh, won’t you come and share it with me?
You can if on Jesus you will believe.
Come, let’s head to heaven. How happy we’ll be!
Oh, what a wonderful day!

Sometimes I dream of that blessed day
When our Lord will come and catch us away.
Yes, even now, let us walk in His Way.
Oh, what a wonderful day!

O grave, where’s your vict’ry? Death, where’s your sting?
For Jesus has risen and conquered all things,
And those who believe Him forever can sing
Praise to His wonderful name.

Oh, what a wonderful day that will be
When the face of our Jesus we see.
Then like Him we will always be.
Oh, what a wonderful day!

He Is Risen!

empty tomb 3

What was it like that Sunday morning as they walked toward the grave?
Sadness and confusion—how can this be God’s way?
Nonetheless, we’ll go anoint Him, but who will roll the stone away?
Then on their arrival—who had moved the stone?
And look! The tomb is empty, face cloth and linen wrappings left, they alone!
Is that a gardener in the shadows? Perhaps he’ll say what’s been done.
“Mary!” Jesus said. “Rabboni (Teacher)!” she exclaimed.
Jesus was alive again, and everything had changed.
Yes, the Son had risen, and things would never be the same.

Glorious news of resurrection! Jesus proved His claim to deity.
In Him there is salvation, and that’s good news for you and me.
He’s the truth, the life, the way to God, and King of Kings eternally.
The veil in the temple—top to bottom rent in two.
Access to God the Father, Jesus opened with His death for me and you.
Rising again He gives us who trust Him hope, joy, and life anew.

See Mark 16:1-6 and John 20:11-16.

Wonderful Savior

I’m living for Jesus today and each day.
Jesus is with me now and always.
He proved His love when He died on the tree,
And He rose again, conquering death for eternity.

Christ_resurrected-blue cloudsHe lives forever, for us interceding,
And He is the answer for all of our needing.
Oh what a Savior is Jesus our Lord!
He opens blind eyes and heals with a word.
He saves to the uttermost all who call on Him.
I love Him more with each new day’s dawning.

“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” –Hebrews 7:25 New King James Version
