Tag Archives: God’s Promises

When our boat overturned, the river started to pull me downstream. Then one of the men reached to pull me out of the rushing water. I felt his strong arms lifting me up.

Jesus, when the world pulls at me and I feel as though I’ve lost my footing, please rescue me! Lift me up with Your strong promises which reach out with arms of faithfulness.

My church children’s group used to sing, “Safe am I in the hollow of His hand. Sheltered o’er in His love forever more. No ill can harm me. No foe alarm me, for He keeps both day and night.”*
Lord, I will trust You no matter what happens. I can find rest in You. (See Psalm 62:1)

Psalm 145:13-14 “…The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.” (NIV)

Promises from Psalms

Do the promises to Israel in the Psalms apply to me as well as to the people of Israel who sang them? I believe they do because I’m part of Israel by faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 4:11-12). If my understanding is correct, then from Psalm 121, all of us who believe in Jesus can know and sing that—
My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. He won’t let me stumble. He watches over me and never sleeps. God stands as my protective shade day and night. He keeps me from harm and watches over my soul. The Lord looks after me as I come and go, now and always.
God Character       We are assured in Psalm 32:5-6 that God forgives and that we can find Him. In verse 5, King David confessed his sin to God, and God forgave him. Verse 6 says, “For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You in a time when You may be found….” I also call on God in the today—the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2)—when He can be found. He’s our protector, refuge, shield, and very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)
Then in Psalm 91:15, God promises, [The person who loves God] “shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.” What a wonderful promise—God’s presence! The Bible doesn’t say we won’t have trouble—just that He will be with us. He also says He will use it for good. (Romans 8:28)
God is so gracious!
