God’s Kingdom

Matthew 6:9-10 “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come….”
Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is…righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Royal Crest--DoverLord, let Your kingdom come in me—
Righteousness—always obeying You more and more
Peace—seeking and pursuing peace by resting in Your love and loving You with heart, mind, soul, and strength, and then showing Your love to others (Psalm 34:14, Mark 12:30-31)
Joy in the Holy Spirit—coming reverentially close to You and rejoicing in Your presence
Amen.

Finding Rest for My Soul

Jesus_024         One key to finding rest for my soul, perhaps the major key, is humility. Jesus said, “Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)
Pride, self-focus, and fear of rejection (fear of man—Proverbs 29:25) can make me an approval addict. They may prompt me to try to manipulate others to get my own way. Learning to humble myself instead of letting pride, self, and fear run my life sounds like a step toward more peace for my inner self.
“LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in matters too great or in things too wonderful for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me [ceased from fretting].” (Psalm 131:1-2) I will be more able to calm and quiet myself if I don’t consider things that are out of my control or that are beyond my understanding.
Oh yes, Lord Jesus! Teach me Your humility and gentleness! Amen.
(Bible verses are from Amplified Bible.)

Harmony isn’t just a “Dating site”

Really liked this post, especially the reminder that if we will seek Him, Jesus will walk us through turmoil.

Did Jesus have a Facebook Page?

What is harmony?  Peace, unity, order, a pleasing combination of elements in a whole.
An agreement made or balance of a suitable arrangement.
It is a working together in friendship or cooperation. linus

What is disharmony besides the opposite of harmony? It is the state of being deranged or lacking in orderliness. It is also conflict, strife, warfare, disunity or dissension.

If Heaven has only harmony, then could it be much of man’s difficulties come from disharmony?

We have constant disconnects, confusion, and cry over lack as if there is no abundance when God makes it clear he has plenty of everything to go around. (Philippians 4:19) He created the earth with more provisions than man would ever need for every person who will ever inhabit it until the end of the age.  That being said, man in his selfish habits and greed once again manage to “muck it all…

Plant in Good Soil

James 1:21—“So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the message God has planted in your hearts, for it is strong enough to save your souls.” New Living Translation

Holy Spirit, please change my heart and work in it so I become “good soil” as in the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:3-8). The seed sown in good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s Word and do what it says so it produces fruit. (See Matthew 13:23 and James 1:22.)

Then, Spirit of the living God, please plant Jesus’ words (which are spirit and life) in my heart so they can grow and produce much fruit. Yes, develop in me fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Do it to bring glory and honor to our Lord. As this fruit is manifested, it will result in the transformation of my mind, will, and emotions so I’m more and more like Jesus. (See John 6:63 and Galatians 5:23)

So Spirit of the triune God who is God alone, I yield myself to You. Amen.

Decisions! Decisions!

I dislike having to make decisions because I worry that I’ll make the “wrong” choice. My experience over the years shows that all too often I’ve chosen ways that I end up regretting. So why do I regret what I’ve decided? Sometimes it’s because other people are angry at how I’ve dealt with a situation. Other times it’s just that I’m miserable with the results of my choice. Or I look over at the roads I didn’t take and think they look better and “if only” I’d chosen that way, then….

“If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.” –Psalm 139:8-10 New King James Version

Maybe God is telling me with these verses that no matter where my decisions land me, His Spirit is there. I can rest in Him and trust His guidance even in that place. God is there where I am. If I look to Him in trust instead of leaning on those old ways of thinking about the past and what I probably “should have done,” He gives me peace. He helps me remember things like, “Other people’s anger is their problem, not mine.” He reminds me that He satisfies my soul, that He’s more than enough, and that He loves me and will never leave or forsake me. Then I can relax because my Father is there, and He cares for me (1 Peter 5:7).

Abundant Life

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 New King James)

The abundant life Jesus came to give us is much more than I had thought. I receive it as I draw closer to Him. I experience more of that life when I make Him and His work my top priority instead of continuing to try to manage life and circumstance my own way.

Abundant life for me includes freedom from some things, like addictions, compulsions, fear of disapproval that makes me dishonest, worry, anger, jealousy, the desire to get all the attention and approval, self-focus, greed, hoarding, obsessions, and the drive to control everything from ink pens to people. It also includes freedom to –enjoy God, appreciate His blessings, love others, and experience peace of heart and soul.

Dear Lord, You extend many invitations to me for banquets where You want to pour out Your love and draw me closer to Yourself so I can have more of that life overflowing. Often I’ve let the world drown out Your voice or thought I was too busy to come to the banquet. But I don’t want to miss another one! By Your grace, I won’t waste a minute responding to Your call. Amen.

The God Who Loves

Lord God on high, You are holy.

You are total righteousness.

And yet You regard the lowly

And forgive all my sinfulness.

You fill my life with music,

With joy and peace from above.

Every good gift comes from You,

O merciful Father of love.

Your love is higher than the mountains,

O Lord, yes deeper than the sea.

It is broader than the universe.

You wrap it sweetly around me.

Psalm 138:6 “Though the LORD is on high, yet He regards the lowly….” James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights….” New King James

A Confession and Prayer

Father, sometimes when people tell of their experiences, I want to have that kind of experience too. I become dissatisfied with what You’ve done for me. Please forgive me for allowing jealousy to come into my soul. Instead of listening to envious thoughts, let me focus on the truth of Your unfailing love and Your presence with me. Psalm 95:6-7 says that You are our God, the Lord our Maker and that we are the people of Your pasture, and the sheep of Your hand.

You, Lord, are more than enough. Please teach me to slam the door on any kind of jealousy. Amen.

“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” (Proverbs 14:30 New International Version)

Jesus, Anchor of My Soul

When stress stirs tumult in my soul,

And daily struggles take their toll,

Please Jesus, be my anchor!

When peace seems far away at best,

And life’s demands give me no rest,.

Then Jesus, be my anchor.

Yes, Jesus, anchor of my soul,

Jesus, my faith’s blessed goal,

Jesus, faithful anchor,

I cling to You. In You I trust.

So when the storms around me fuss,

You are my solid anchor!

Fears blow in, toss me about.

I look around, tempted to doubt.

Lord Jesus, be my anchor.

When sadness overflows my heart,

And Satan shoots his fiery darts,

O Jesus, be my anchor!

Yes, Jesus, anchor of my soul,

Jesus, my faith’s blessed goal,

Jesus, faithful anchor,

I cling to You. In You I trust.

So when the storms around me fuss,

You are my solid anchor!

The Lord’s Presence

I love Your presence Lord Jesus.

Naught more could I ask.

How sweet to dwell with You, Jesus!

In the light of Your face I bask.

With joy overflowing my spirit

Up into my soul,

I’m finding peace and rest now

As on You my cares I roll.

Not that it’s always easy,

No, the way oft’ seems weary and long.

But Lord, You’re right there with me.

That gives my heart a fresh song.

And the floods cannot o’erflow me,

Nor the fires consume as they burn.

For they only serve to refine me

As God’s ways I learn.

Yes, I love Your presence Lord Jesus.

Naught more could I ask.

How sweet to dwell with You, Jesus!

In the light of Your face I bask.

“When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” Isaiah 43:2-3 New Living Translation
