Chosen Part 2

Some years back, a Bible Study group I joined sang a song based on 1 Peter 2:9:

“But you are a chosen generation,
A royal priesthood, a holy nation,
A peculiar people, that you should
Show forth the praises of Him
Who has called you out of darkness,
Out of darkness, out of darkness
Into His marvelous light,
Into His marvelous light.”

A piano rendition is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPZgG83drMY.
The song was apparently written by Jeanie Clattenburg.

As I said before, how wonderful to be chosen, and how marvelous to be called for a purpose!
Lord Jesus, thank You for making my life worth living. Amen.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” –1 Peter 2:9

Colossians 1:13 also talks about that amazing transfer from darkness to light.“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.”

Hallelujah! Thank You, Lord.

Chosen – Part 1

“Jacob…whom I [God] have chosen…You are my servant; I have chosen you….” (From Isaiah 41:8-9)
Lord, You chose Jacob (Israel) and You have chosen us also. You chose us to go and bear fruit for Your glory. Thank You. Please help me serve you well today. Amen.
Jesus said in John 15:8 and 16, “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit — fruit that will last…..”

In Colossians 3:12, Paul calls us “God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved.” Wow! Holy—set apart for His service—and dearly loved. Not just loved, but dearly loved. What encouragement to live seeking to please God and joyfully serve wherever He directs! Why do I forget so often and start whining? I want to form a new habit. When I hear myself whining or complaining, I want to remind myself that I’m part of a holy people, chosen and dearly loved.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” –1 Peter 2:9

How wonderful to be selected, called! And we’re called for a purpose—not to be pampered or play games. We’re called to serve God even in difficulties, fit into His plans whatever they are, and bring Him glory. It is the path to real life. I didn’t learn this when I was young, but I believe God gives me each new day so I can learn it now.
Thank You, Lord.

One Day to Live?

2 Corinthians 5:9-10 (New Living Translation) “So our aim is to please him always, whether we are here in this body or away from this body. For we must all stand before Christ to be judged….”

When I read these verses at the first of the year, I decided to make this my goal for 2010: To seek to please Christ every day. Now, how does one do that? I cry out with the psalmist, “Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths.” (Psalm 25:4 New King James) Yes! That’s how I can be well-pleasing to Christ—learn and do God’s ways and walk in His paths. Verse 9 of the same psalm says, “The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way.” Humility is the key. God will teach me His way and direct me in His paths as I humble myself before Him.

So as I look into God’s Word, I can look for instruction in how to please Jesus. I see in John 15:5 that apart from Christ I can do nothing. He is the vine, and I am a branch. May I bear abundant fruit! In John 15:12 Jesus commands us to love each other as He loves us. The more I show God’s love to others, the more my Lord is pleased. From 2 Timothy 2:4 and Colossians 3:2, I learn to let heaven fill my thoughts and not let this life’s concerns entangle me. How delightful to search (and find) each day what pleases the Lord Jesus Christ!

If I had only one day to live, I would want to live so that Jesus could welcome me home with the words, “Well done.” And actually all of us have only one day to live—today—because we can’t re-live yesterday and tomorrow is never promised. So I join Paul in making it my aim to please Christ always.

God Gives Wisdom

Proverbs 2:3-7 (New King James) “Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly.”

So let me walk uprightly and partake of the sound wisdom God has stored up! Please teach me, Lord, to cry out for discernment and understanding and to seek the treasures of knowledge and understanding in Your Word. Amen.
